Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute

The Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute (EMBI) at UAB, housed in the Department of Neurology, embodies a unified scientific and clinical focus on age-related decline in memory and cognitive function. EMBI investigators pursue a broad range of research endeavors, from pre-clinical research to identify mechanisms as underlying targets for intervention, translational studies that establish proof-of-principle in human models, and the implementation of clinical trials that demonstrate safety and efficacy for mitigating memory and cognitive decline.

The EMBI has significant representation and collaboration across multiple UAB units, including the Heersink School of Medicine, the Graduate School, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, Callahan Eye Hospital, and School of Optometry.
